Canopy of Neighbors
Who We Are
Canopy of Neighbors is a non-profit organization whose mission is to create new pathways to aging well and aging independently in community. We are one of over 350 “Villages” across the country that serve a diverse group of older adults, 62 and over, who wish to remain in their homes with the help of simple human services. Our service area encompasses the Elmwood/Delaware/Hertel area and close surrounding neighborhoods of Buffalo
Our services include vital transportation by caring, vetted volunteers who allow our members to get to medical and social appointments. Interactions with our volunteers – who often become friends – also provide a crucial social touch. The other component of our services includes the social programming necessary to stave off the social isolation that often affects an older population and leads to poor health outcomes.
What We Do
DRIVING MEMBERS: Volunteer drivers are available for both medical and social appointments.
PRACTICAL NEEDS: Practical support includes help with simple household repairs, yard work, and assistance with technology issues.
VOLUNTEERING is based on YOUR schedule!
If you know of a potiential member who may benefit from our services or would like information on becoming a volunteer please call Wendy Fredricks at 235-8133.

Catholic Central Food Pantry
Who We Are
Catholic Central Food Pantry is facilitated by parishioners and neighbors of the Blessed Trinity Roman Catholic Church on Leroy Ave. of Buffalo, NY. Some our volunteers have been working at the Pantry for over ten years.
Supplies of proteins, grains and fruits and veg arrive every other week from Food Bank of WNY. We also have deliveries of bread from Wegmans and DiBello’s driven to our pantry by volunteers at Food Shuttle of WNY.
What We Do
Catholic Central Food Pantry distributes contributions from the Food Bank of WNY and from BJs, Tops and Wegmans via the Food Shuttle of WNY. We also distribute, periodically, sausaged meat from Wardynsky’s.
Our visitors are local residents in need of food and other supplies. Between 2016 – 2017 we registered close to 1000 families and distributed food for around 2,500 people. In July 2017 we have started a reading program for small children. It is called “Reading is Food for Thought” and is presented by the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library.
We have a small clothes closet to recycle clothes from our neighborhood. It is extremely popular with visitors to the Pantry.
Volunteers are welcome to come and help though we are seldom busy for more than an hour or two.

Family Help Center
Who We Are
The mission of the Family Help Center is to provide free support to families – and safety to children – when parenting gets tough, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Since 1973, we have provided services to families with children of all ages – the support they can’t always get from family or friends. Agency services include: 24-Hour Parent Helpline and in-home crisis intervention, phone follow-up services, parent support groups with companion child care groups, child enrichment programs, intensive home-based preventive services, mandated preventive services, advocacy and linkage, and community education. No fees are charged for these services. The Family Help Center also has a full service day care center which is licensed for 124 children.
What We Do
Through the Family Help Center’s services, we stop the intergenerational cycle of violence, as statistics show that approximately 95% of parents who abuse/neglect their children were maltreated as children. As a nonprofit agency, we are dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect in all of its forms – physical, emotional, and sexual. We offer immediate assistance – with no application procedures, no eligibility requirements, and no waiting period. Perceived by families as being safe and non-threatening, the Family Help Center is highly effective in preventing and stopping child abuse and neglect.

Family Promise of WNY
Who We Are
Family Promise of Western New York, alongside our partners, keeps families experiencing homelessness together by offering emergency housing and compassionate support as they work to find their way back home.
What We Do
We are critical – We are one of two emergency homeless shelters in Erie County that take complete families. Traditional shelters separate men and teenage boys from women and children. We keep families together and the majority of our guests are children.volunteer driven.
We are Volunteer Driven – We mobilize a network of 500 volunteers to help us shelter, feed and support our guests. With only 2 full-time employees, FPWNY’s dedicated volunteers are imperative to our success and help families achieve permanent housing at a fraction of the cost of traditional shelters.
We are interfaith – Our program is based on the value of hospitality that is found in every religious tradition and provides the framework which allows volunteers to put their faith into action in order to directly minister to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Friends of Little Portion Friary
Who We Are
Little Portion Friary (“LPF”) is a group of over 100+ volunteers who come together to provide (a) services to the homeless and (b) to provide a place where the needs and gifts of countless individuals could come together. What we’ve learned is that; sometimes we’ve had to say “no,” and sometimes we give more than we thought we could. Giving out clothing, toiletries and household items was easy enough; while giving structure and consistency has always been more difficult.
For over 35 years, LPF continues to bring together workers, donors and guests in an effort to meet the basic needs for food, shelter and clothing, but also to see that each guest takes his or her own steps toward a more stable life. We depend entirely on the efforts of volunteer workers and remain in awe of the generosity that has sustained us this long.
LPF is a 501C non-profit organization, and does not directly receive government financial support, although, we are connected with the Food Bank of WNY, and receive assistance in the form of food for our guests.
What We Do
Mission Statement
WE ARE GOD’S PEOPLE, at work in the world, motivated by love, and caring for the people of God who need our help.
WE WORK AS A TEAM, of volunteers from all walks of life, trusting in God’s providence, by complete dependence on the generosity of those who share our vision.
RECOGNIZING OUR LIMITS, we open our home to those whom we can help, providing basic material needs and direction, as we call each to his or her potential.
Our Vision
Little Portion Friary’s vision is for all homeless individuals to find and live in affordable housing, as contributing members of society, with hope for their future, and respect for themselves and others

Global African Village
Who We Are
What We Do
Our humanitarian work with the Bagishu tribe in rural Uganda falls into four categories: education (we run a primary school, Joseph Community School); health care (we buy over-the-counter medicines for the villagers, who seldom have access to health care); infrastructure improvement (the Bagishu people have no access to running water); and small business development (our aim is to help villagers become more self-sufficient).
Our president Sebastian Wanzama-Piro, is a native Ugandan who has lived in Toronto for about 30 years. He travels to Uganda about once a year to oversee our projects. He meets with the villagers to determine their needs, and we fund projects will have the greatest long-term impact. We do not ship items to Uganda because this would be cost-prohibitive. Instead, Sebastian takes the money we raise and puts it right to work in Uganda. This in turn supports the local economy.

St. Vincent De Paul Society
Who We Are
What We Do
The St. Vincent de Paul Society’s mission is to fulfill the two great Commandments – love of God and love of neighbor.
The Society seeks out God’s needy, both materially and spiritually, and helps where and when they can. Sometimes they can do little more than just listen and comfort. Sometimes they are able to help with a bag of donated foodstuffs, or by assisting with the necessities of life.
SVDP is not just a “provider of emergency food orders.” Vincentians are also concerned with the needs of the aged, lonely, handicapped, permanently sick or housebound, and persons in convalescent nursing homes and hospitals. Persons to be aided are met “on an equal basis,” never looked down upon, and always thought of as brothers and sisters in Christ. Visits to those in need are made in pairs to help the recipients feel more at ease and avoid scandal. Wherever there is a need, the Vincentians go two-by two and do what they can to ease the suffering of their fellow human beings. In coming closer to those in need, SVDP members feel that they come closer to God!

With a legacy of service spanning more than two decades, TSC is the culmination and continued development of a mission and dedication to service and civic improvement that was first written many years ago.Today we are recognized as a leader in the Western New York community, developing meaningful programming that ensure all individuals have the opportunity to experience service.
By maintaining and working with an extensive partnership network – one spanning the entire state of New York – TSC is recognized as a non-profit industry leader with the ability to identify the needs of our region and combat them thru comprehensive and profound service opportunities.
The Service Collaborative is proud to sponsor nationally recognized AmeriCorps programming which is supported by the New York State Commission on National and Community Service, the US Department of Labor, and by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
