PAROLE MATTERS HANDLED BY THE ASSIGNED COUNSEL PROGRAM
The Assigned Counsel Program can represent financially eligible clients in certain matters related to parole status.
Representation will be provided to such clients upon request at final parole revocation hearings. Normally, one attorney is assigned to handle all such matters that are scheduled to be heard on a given date.
When special circumstances exist, evidencing particular need for representation, an attorney may be assigned to represent a client at a preliminary parole revocation hearing. Examples of such special circumstances include a client's history of mental illness, limited intelligence, inability to read or to understand the charges pending against the individual, or pending serious criminal charges.
Attorneys from the Program can also be assigned to represent clients on administrative appeals from denial of parole release or from decisions to revoke parole.
